ID Energy Group begins construction on Groundbreaking Solar Park at Holcim Hungary’s Királyegyháza cement plant
We are thrilled to announce the commencement of construction on a pioneering solar park at the Királyegyháza Cement Plant, operated by Holcim Hungary Ltd. This landmark project, which kicked off this summer, marks a significant advancement in sustainable energy production within the cement industry.
A Vision of Sustainability and Innovation
The solar park, being developed by ID Energy Group, will boast an impressive capacity of 26 MWp and is expected to generate approximately 38,000 MWh of clean energy annually. This initiative is set to be the largest private renewable power purchase agreement (PPA) of its kind in Hungary. By harnessing the power of the sun, the project will enable Holcim Hungary to cover nearly one-third of its energy needs with renewable sources in the future.
Key Features and Benefits
- Clean Energy Generation: The solar park will significantly reduce the plant’s carbon footprint, demonstrating a commitment to environmental stewardship and reducing reliance on non-renewable resources.
- Efficient Land Use: Strategically utilizing existing industrial land, the project maximizes space efficiency without encroaching on additional green areas.
- Cost Savings: By lowering electricity costs, the solar installation will enhance operational efficiency and provide long-term economic benefits for the cement plant.
- Job Creation: The project will create new employment opportunities in the renewable energy sector, contributing to local economic growth.
A Milestone for Holcim Hungary
The solar park’s development represents a major milestone for the Királyegyháza Cement Plant and aligns with Holcim Hungary’s ambitious goal of achieving net carbon neutrality by 2040. Upon completion this autumn, the solar park will supply Holcim Hungary with renewable energy at a fixed price for the next 15 years, thanks to a contract signed in 2022.
This project underscores our commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions and reinforces our role in supporting our partners in their environmental goals. We look forward to seeing the positive impact of this initiative and are proud to be part of a transformative step towards a greener future.
